Which is why I was so excited when one of my most beloved chocolate purveyors, Green & Black's, contacted me recently. Well known in the UK, but less so here in the States, Green & Black's is attempting to spread the word about what they do and, wisely, looking to bloggers as a means of doing so. I've actually been a huge Green & Black's fan for years and am thrilled to be able to discuss them here with you today.
Not only is the company's chocolate exquisitely tasty, it's also organically grown. As one of the most heavily sprayed crops in the world, it's so pleasing to learn of a business that understands, applauds, and employs organic cacao production methods. Green and Black's chocolate is also certified Fair Trade. This means that the farmers, their families, and all of the individuals involved in growing, harvesting and processing the chocolate are provided a fair, living wage, enabling them to thrive in their personal lives and aid their communities in the process.
While flavor of any food is a large motivation for whether or not I'll choose to eat it, growing methods and labor practices of the companies behind them are just as significant in my decision-making process. Green & Black's hits all the right notes for me, from delicious, to sustainable, to ethical. I promote these practices at home and whenever I write about chocolate, including in the Ingredients section in my new book. The more these methods are employed, the more we collectively benefit.
Owing to all of that, I'm super pumped to offer a giveaway of Green & Black's products today! The company has generously offered 3 (!!!) small measure readers a gift package including their Ultimate Recipe Book and Classic Collection, pictured above. That's some good stuff there, folks!
All you need to do to enter the giveaway is tell me your favorite ways of eating chocolate (or, if you can't choose, one of your favorite!). I mentioned several of mine above, but I'll also add partnered with peanut butter to my roster. What about you?
I'll run the giveaway through next Wednesday, June 27th, ending at midnight EST. PLEASE leave a means of contacting you in your reply, either by linking back to your blog/website (which will need somewhere on there telling me how to contact you), or by leaving your email address with your comment (if you'd like to keep your email private, just make a comment with your name and then send me your email at: ashleyadamsenglish(at)gmail(dot)com).
Even if you don't win, do check out Green & Black's. They're a wonderful company with an even better mission. Now, if you'll pardon me, I've got a bar of Peanut & Sea Salt (I! KNOW!) that needs nibbling....
*Please note the following disclosure, provided by Green & Black's: Kraft Foods is providing the prizes for this program at no cost to me. This program is not administered or sponsored by Kraft Foods or its affiliates, but solely by Small Measure.
I love Green & Blacks! Thank you for doing this giveaway!
ReplyDeleteAsking someone what their favorite way to use chocolate is is a daunting task, isn't it? How about my oddest way to use it - in black bean chili! It adds a really nice dark, rich note that isn't quite identifiable as chocolate but makes a big difference.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion chocolate and coffee go hand in hand. But partnered with peanut butter also works!
ReplyDeleteChocolate and peanut butter is truly the way to my sweet husband's heart, so chocolate cookies with a peanut butter center.
ReplyDeleteleannafford at gmail
Green & Black's is some of my favorite chocolate, too!
ReplyDeleteI would say I'm somewhat of a purist: just a few squares and a hot cup of smooth coffee make my world go 'round. But its also good with salted caramel, avocado, cheese, wine...
cat.goodall.roth@gmail.com
I love to break chocolate into pieces and then stick it in the freezer and eat them in the middle of a really hot day...
ReplyDeleteBig fan of them. I used to get the chocolate ice cream but can't find it here anymore.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway.
unraveledrevelry @ gmail (dot)com
Wow-what a great giveaway! Thanks for the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteMy two favorite ways--hot chocolate (cocoa powder, sugar, cinnamon, cayenne mixed with a little water and then with microwaved milk) or from a piece of the 1 lb bar of dark chocolate I keep in the cupboard (I think all mom's have the cupboard chocolate, mine certainly did)!
ReplyDeleteI love Green & Blacks! My favorite way to eat chocolate is to just nibble on it plain with a small glass of milk at hand.
ReplyDeletechocolate covered salted caramels. My mother-in-law thaught me to make them and i LOVE them :)
ReplyDeletezmeaghan@gmail.com
I've heard of this brand but never tried it...mid-way through this pregnancy my latest craving is for good chocolate though, so even if I don't win some, I may go buy some. :)
ReplyDeleteFavorite way to enjoy chocolate...I prefer milk chocolate, but if it's *good* chocolate then dark is just fine, and I'll usually eat it straight up. Lately I've been sticking it in the freezer for a little while first, as cold, crunchy chocolate is a divine treat in the middle of a FL summer.
I'll eat chocolate pretty much any way. Yum!
ReplyDeleteI love chocolate in every way! Lately i have been tossing it into a bowl with still hot salted popcorn that has been cooked in organic coconut oil. Yum! Lesley.
ReplyDeletelesdear2002@yahoo.com
Oh, it's got to be a toss-up between "straight-up" or maybe as big chunks in a chocolate chunk cookie. On second thought, the cookie wins... :-)
ReplyDeleteThis looks incredible! YUM! My favorite way to eat chocolate (okay, three) are these:
ReplyDelete1) dark chocolate bar with sea salt
2) hot salted carmel hot cocoa
3) peanut butter, ice cream, and chocolate shake
Sarah M
One of my favorites..... chocolate, melted with a bit of coconut oil and maple syrup. Then drizzled (ok, dumped) on some ice cream.... home made Magic Shell!!! Mmmmmmm!!
ReplyDeleteOooh, I love this chocolate! What an appetizing giveaway! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite way to eat chocolate is plain. I love to nibble on a couple of squares after lunch, when I've put my little one down for nap and suddenly have a little break. (Sigh with me, aaah.)
My second favorite way to eat chocolate is melted and poured over vanilla ice cream and chopped fruit like strawberries or peaches. YUM!
Oh, yum. Love Green & Black's. I'd say my favorite way to enjoy chocolate is piece by piece but triple chocolate brownies are a close second.
ReplyDeleteartandlemons[at]yahoo[dot]com
Chocolate is best in giant cookie form!
ReplyDeleteHands down my favorite way to enjoy chocolate is in drinkable hot chocolate form, preferably with cinnamon in it.
ReplyDeleteI don't think there is any way I don't love chocolate, but partnered with mint is a perpetual favorite. Mmmm minty chocolate!!! Also sea salt - oh my, yes.
ReplyDeleteI love Green & Black's chocolates. Yum!
ReplyDeleteAshley, have you tried Raw Shakti Chocolate? It's made locally in Asheville by hand, organic, fair trade, and superbly delicious. If you're interested, email me and I'll see if the business manager wants to send you some to sample for a giveaway or something.
I forgot how I like to eat my chocolate - DAILY! :)
ReplyDeleteI'll honestly take chocolate in any form I can get it. Straight up is my preferred method- break off a neat little square and pop it in my mouth to savor. 2nd favorite method? Home churned chocolate ice cream...especially on those sweltering New England humid summer days! 3rd favorite? Has to be as part of a campfire s'more. Yum-o!
ReplyDeleteangieferenc@hotmail.com
I'm a big fan of mole sauce with chocolate, for the novelty of it all. But Chocolate really is meant to be eaten sweet, I think, with a little salt to intensify the experience. Yum. laelgilbert@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteI like my chocolate enveloping beautiful, red, delicious strawberries! Hands down, the best ever!
ReplyDeleteChocolate and fresh cherries!
ReplyDeleteWow, could there be a harder task then deciding my favorite way to eat chocolate? I would have to say peppermint chocolate, coffee chocolate and potato chip are my favs right now!
ReplyDeleteMichelle
steim99@yahoo.com
In a tasted sandwich, maybe brioche - yum yum yum! green and Blacks is THE BEST!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful giveaway this is!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite way to eat chocolate is with my mother, from whom I have inherited my chocoholic tendencies! And my social conscience, which makes choosing a Fair Trade product so important. She introduced me to Green & Black's a number of years ago, and I would like nothing better than to share more of it with her.
Straight up is best: from packaging to mouth in one gesture.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite way to eat chocolate is with a handful of hazelnuts...there is nothing better!! Green & Black's is so good!
ReplyDeleteLaura.Windgassen (at) gmail
with toasted marshmallows. by far.
ReplyDeleteOooooh, I love Green & Blacks chocolate! There are a few varieties in our local Wegmans. I love to eat chocolate with a mug of tea or a glass of red wine. I also love it on a s'more with a vegan marshmallow and a homemade graham cracker. Yum!

LOVE Green & Blacks!! Awesome giveaway. My favorite way to eat chocolate is either 'straight up' or spread on my toast ( I would love to know if there is a fairtrade and organic version of nutella out there...)
ReplyDeletebridgetmlowe@gmail
Rapunzel brand makes an awesome nutella-type spread. Seek it out!
Deletechocolate with any kind of nut....my absolute favorite!! green & black's has been my favorite chocolate for years now. what a fantastic giveaway.
ReplyDeletesjs827@yahoo.com
I like my chocolate straight up and dark as night washed down with cool water to help release the sweetness of really dark chocolate. The darker the chocolate the better. I like 85% or more!
ReplyDeleteOh. My. Love Green & Blacks! I love chocolate chip cookies, chocolate with mint, chocolate chocolate chip ice cream...oh, the list goes on! Thanks for the opportunity, Ashley!
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan if Green & Blacks. The darker the better!
ReplyDeleteIf I'm really in a chocolate kind of mood, I won't turn down a layered cake. But really, there isn't many chocolate confections I'd turn down if made with quality ingredients.
I just ate a small bit of my Green & Blacks dark chocolate w/ mint bar about 5 minutes ago. Yum! I think chocolate baked goods are my favorite treat, but you really get a lot of good chocolate satisfaction with just a bit of a straight up chocolate bar-
ReplyDeletebdement at hotmail dot com
I've been a fan of Green & Blacks for a long time! For me, the sweet and salty combination of nuts and chocolate can't be beat. Any kind of salty nut will do. Caramel comes in second. nasturtium (at) fastmail.fm
ReplyDeleteI am a peanut butter and chocolate kind of gal. oooh and caramel and chocolate. and let's not forget nuts, fruit, and chocolate.
ReplyDeletetamzhome at hotmail dot com
I actually just churned a chocolate sesame ice cream made with Green & Black's this morning, and it is delicious. I too am a huge fan!
ReplyDeleterebeccapmcclain at gmail
I love chocolate with mint and Green and Blacks makes a great one!
ReplyDelete31mayapples @ gmail.com
Ooooh. The (food) love of my life! When it comes to good chocolate, I'm almost always for savoring it little bite by little bite. However, I've been wanting to make homemade hot fudge and good chocolate would be the very best foundation!
ReplyDeletecourtney.a.behrens at gmail
Mmmm. I will take it pretty much any way. Growing up I LOVED chocolate covered potato chips! A maybe more grown up version that's so good is sliced baguette topped with squares of chocolate, put under the broiler until the chocolate melts but still holds its shape, then drizzled with olive oil and a bit of salt.
ReplyDeleteGreen & Blacks is great! I've been strict about my chocolate purchasing choices since learning about child slavery in the business through sites like this: http://slavefreechocolate.org/
ReplyDeleteHave to say, I don't make my favorite chocolate concoction myself--it is the liquid truffle at French Broad Chocolate Lounge. Heaven!
hmm chocolate with coffee, chocolate with red wine, chocolate with hot chocolate, chocolate eaten in bed, chocolate during naptime... dark chocolate chips mixed in a bowl of peanut butter. mmmm.
ReplyDeletemund0tron@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI love Green & Black! My favorite way to have chocolate is with red wine, of course. And bars with salt in or on them are by far the best!
ReplyDeleteAww this makes me so sentimental as I gave up my vegan truffle business last year (see http://ecogrrl.wordpress.com/2011/08/13/chocolate-covered/ ). I love working with chocolate, and making my hand-rolled truffles was such a zen thing for me, I only wish I had the time to spend on it these days...
ReplyDeleteHard to beat just eating it straight, but if I'm feeling extra festive then it's in homemade truffles, browned butter brownies, or drizzled on dried apricots.
ReplyDeleteGreen & Black makes the BEST chocolate! I'm a purist and love to eat it au naturel with a cup of tea, but I've also been known to make a killer dark chocolate brownie.
ReplyDeletejennifer.fadiman at gmail
I've been lurking for a while, but you drew me out with this irresistible give-away. I would love to win it!
ReplyDeleteChocolate covered strawberries, chocolate covered cherries, chocolate covered graham crackers... the list goes on and on!
ReplyDeleteAmanda
dizzywiththevision@yahoo.com
I have 3 Green & Black bars in my fridge. Which leads to how I like to eat chocolate... I love a bite off a bar after dinner as I sip a glass of red wine. A bite of fine chocolate is all I need. Nothing more. It is perfect bliss to let a rich piece of dark chocolate melt against the roof of your mouth.
ReplyDeleteStraight up! I love Green & Black's, the Maya Gold is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI love to melt it into a really decadent hot chocolate. Mmmm.
ReplyDeleteI like good quality chocolate in my oatmeal.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Recipes...I am excited. Thank you for the opportunity!
ReplyDeleteChocolate covered strawberries!
ReplyDeleteOh holy moly. We love some Green & Black at our house. We eat it straight up, none of this mixing it with fruit or nuts or anything.
ReplyDeleteI just ran out of Green & Blaclk's last night! My favorite way to eat it? Sitting on the couch with my feet up.
ReplyDeletegracesnature at yahoodot com
I see that I am in good company! I also like mine "straight up." These days it's the mint that drives me wild. I do have to say that I was surprised and a bit saddened to learn they are a subsidiary of Kraft though.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite way to eat chocolate is in a chocolate fountain with marshmallows
ReplyDeleteuclangel422 at yahoo dot com
I love, love, love chocolate paired with peanut butter. It's also very good with caramel.
ReplyDeletelemsullivan@yahoo.com

I love me some hot chocolate. On a cold blustery day and a book.
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhhhhhh. Chocolate. YUM. My fave food group! LOL! Straight up for me is the best, or in a dark chocolate hot chocolate for sipping. Dark chocolate ice cream with raspberries is hard to resist too. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway, I love G&B. My two favorite ways are with coffee and at night in bed with a good book!
ReplyDeleteI think Chocolate cake is the best way.
ReplyDeletemelodyj(at)gmail(dot)com
I love Green & Black especially the toffee and peanut/salt. My favorite way to eat chocolate is straight up after a difficult day. It takes away all the stress.
ReplyDeleteI love to eat chocolate with my friend Beaty in the morning, whenever he comes to visit he brings a bar to enjoy with our coffee.
ReplyDeleteBeanyween aka kathowkins@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteyum - I am a teacher and I store a good chocolate bar in my desk and break little smidges off throughout the day for my sanity - I think this would last me the whole school year :-)
ReplyDeleteActually, the last time I was in Asheville we went to the West Asheville tailgate market and I bought a raw chocolate "medicine ball." Oh my...I have been craving them since. Would love to try Green & Blacks.
ReplyDeletedukej283@gmail.com
Mmmmmm chocolate, how do I love thee, let me count the ways....really good hot chocolate on a winters day, a few squares in my veggie chili, melted inside a grilled banana with walnuts, straight from the bar....
ReplyDeleteMrskrafty@yahoo.com
Yum! Green and Blacks is sooooo good. I like my chocolate straight up, the darker the better, with a glass of red wine by candlelight on the screen porch! A smooth chocolate mousse is second best. Thanks for a great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway. I've tasted their chocolate before and it's just delicious! As a few others have mentioned, I love my chocolate dark. And when paired with a glass of red wine, it doesn't get much better than that! :)
ReplyDeletehmmm... i love chocolate in all of its glorious forms! i mostly eat dark chocolate by the square - pieces grabbed here and there throughout my day. i love it with sea salt or with coconut. oh, so good! thank you for the offer. :)
ReplyDelete~hilarymk@yahoo.com
Ohh I've never heard of them but it all looks lovely! Hot chocolate would have to be my favorite way to enjoy it, but that sea salt peanut butter you mentioned sounds divine.
ReplyDeleteI'll take some chocolate! Anything related to peanut and chocolates is the way to go for me. Chocolate covered peanut, peanut butter cups, chocolate bar with peanuts...
ReplyDeletegreysonatwakawaidotcom
Green & Blacks chocolate is the best! (although enjoying chocolate in Belgium was pretty good also). My choice is the darker the better, with fruit is yummy, but the best way is enjoying it with someone you truly love...hmmm pure happiness!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance.

jhertrick(at)nc(dot)com
I love chocolate too. I would like to let it melt in my mouth like my husband does, but I have a hard time making it last that long! I prefer dark chocolate with nuts, sometimes dried fruit and anytime with peanut butter or carmel or both (if they don't have it, they should!).
ReplyDeleteGreen & Black is yummy! I love chocolate and have really enjoyed learning to make my own treats - and the ones with nuts generally win.

ReplyDeleteOh, how I love Green & Black's chocolate, for all the reasons you mentioned. Even though I have a limited grocery budget, I used to always make room for my Green & Black's. I'd eat maybe a quarter of a bar to get me through the afternoon almost every day at work! My favorite way to eat chocolate is just by itself. I do like to top a spoonful of peanut butter with some choc. chips though. :)
ReplyDeletecarissa.savage@gmail.com
exciting giveaway! thanks for offering it!
ReplyDeletea simple chocolate treat i adore: a little melted dark chocolate, topped with plan yogurt and a drizzle of maple syrup. with each bite, i scoop the spoon down into the melted chocolate. yum!

Not an easy question! My favorite way to eat chocolate is in chocolate bar form...straight up milk chocolate.
ReplyDeletelrproberts@gmail.com
Chocolate mousse with a wee bit of whipped cream in a stemmed glass-they sell this at a French restaurant called Pt Au Feu in downtown Providence-it's my favorite
ReplyDeletehomemade peanut butter cups and shaved into chocolate cupcakes!
ReplyDeleteI love a nice, dark chocolate brownie myself. It's more work than "straight-up" chocolate, but so tasty!
ReplyDeletejennyleerae (at)gmail (dot)com
Never heard of them before, but sounds great! My fave is straight up, with a good melting in the mouth feel. And I LOVE brownies, and frozen snickers :)
ReplyDeletehttp://littlehomesteadinboise.blogspot.com/
Already a Green & Black fan.. I am a sucker for a a simple piece of dark chocolate and a glass of red wine. Hard to get any better than the real thing, no matter the recipe!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of Green & Black-- they sound right up my alley!
ReplyDeleteThis may sound odd, but my very favorite way of eating chocolate is to have it with an icy cold glass of milk (almond, please). I love how the chocolate shatters into lovely little shards in my mouth and melts into perfect bits of flavor. Divine! Being pregnant, this has been a favorite snack of late. Sadly, I'm all out of quality chocolate at work and now I want some!
With peanut butter for sure, it is my middle of the night, standing a dark kitchen so I don't have to share treat!
ReplyDeleteI love to take a box of chocolates, mix them all up and hide the lid that tells me which one is which. :) It means living life on the edge. And yes... it's really about trying to guess which one is the caramel filled one and eating it first. :)
ReplyDeleteGreen & Blacks has amazing chocolate! The darker the better!!!
ReplyDeleteI prefer my chocolate in two ways: homemade dark hot chocolate in a mug (drank by a warm wood stove) or pieces of hard dark chocolate along side a hot cup of strong black coffee from my stovetop percolator.
ReplyDeleteI'll eat chocolate however! Over ice cream is on the top of my list, though :)
ReplyDeletekurfsec@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI am already in love with G&B, my favorite being their mint chocolate, which is perfect perfect perfect just one square at a time. But I also like to chop up a chocolate bar and mix into cookies and bars for an extra dark chocolate burst.
ReplyDeleteLove their dark chocolate! Thanks for the giveaway :) segura3@ameritech.net
ReplyDeletePeanut and Sea Salt!!! That's one of my favorites from them...now I'm swooning!
ReplyDeleteHugs,

Love green and blacks! Chocolate goes with most anything.
ReplyDeleteI love Green and Blacks! My favourite is almond, second would be butterscotch pieces (such a great idea). Cooking with Green and Blacks- yahoo!
ReplyDeletejulie_lance@yahoo.com
Oh chocolate...How I love thee! The onset of summer has made me crazy for some chunky dark chocolate "snuggled into a s'more." Nothing feels more like summer than a chocolatey s'more!
ReplyDelete-ldhemrick@gmail.com
Mmmmmm.....chocolate.....I don't really have a favorite way to eat it. I'll take it any way I can! :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite way to eat chocolate is either paired with very sweet but not too sticky caramel or with peanut butter (in fact I like peanut butter with so many things! lol) Also, how could I pass up mentioning that either one of these combos is really best in a gooey form and poured on homemade ice cream!
ReplyDeleteI love Green & Blacks! My favorite way to eat chocolate is plain; creamy dark chocolate is the best. Chocolate ice cream and baked goods are a close second.

oh yeahhhh chocolate!!! :) Just in bar form or crossants or or oor or with sea salt!!!

Is there such a thing as a "wrong" way to love chocolate? I don't think so! I'm late to the chocolate lovers party - spent a lot of years ignoring it because I thought it was "too sweet". Then I met dark chocolate and the love affair was on! Caramel and salt only add to the experience!
ReplyDeletemaxmaxine01@gmail.com
I got an ice cream maker for my husband for father's day, and just yesterday I made a hazelnut and milk chocolate gelato . . . I am usually a big peanut-butter and chocolate kind of gal, but the hazelnut-chocolate combo was pretty out of this world! Thanks for the giveaway!

Umm yes please! I love chocolate. It started when I worked for a small chocolate company when I was first married. My favorite is just plain old chocolate, but I can be persuaded with choc n pb, choc n caramel, choc n mint, or choc n fruit. This has been fun to learn of a fair trade organic company, very important. candiseifer@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI'll take chocolate in any form but my favorite is oooey gooey chunks lodged in a warm cookie!
ReplyDeletecebdurand@gmail.com

Really good chocolate chip cookies will always be my favorite way to enjoy chocolate. Love Green & Blacks!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. Deciding how I love to eat chocolate is almost like asking which of your children is your favorite. Straight. Straight frozen. Straight melted. With fruit centers. Drizzled on fruit. With nuts in. Covering nuts. With nut butters. Baked in cakes, cookies, brownies (with or without frostings). Spread over other baked goods. In ice cream. On ice cream. In drinks. You name it I LOVE IT. And I LOVE the thought of it being organically grown and fairly traded. That makes it taste even better.
ReplyDeleteOoops. Forgot. My email is bjgingles@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI love to take good chocolate and smear it with all-natural, no sugar peanut butter. Delicious!
ReplyDelete(courtney dot elizabeth dot foster at gmail)
Baking brownies, hot cocoa , chocolate malt in a cold glass of milk, dipped in crunchy peanut butter, melting between my fingers as I nibble little squares, wrapped around mint candies..... More?
ReplyDeleteWith a tall glass of milk, on the lounge with a trashy movie. Bliss.
ReplyDeletewe try to eat mostly organic, but for my daughter I've tried to be strictly organic, she's 3, so when she was potty training my friends suggested mini M&M's for rewards, so instead I looked for organic chocolate and discovered green and black, she went crazy for it! worked like a charm! we are hooked!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite way of eating Green and Black's is right out of the package. I like their milk chocolate bar and keep one or two in the fridge (yummy). Thank you for this giveaway offer.
ReplyDeleteI believe chocolate should be eaten straight up and not diluted or tampered with by adding other ingredients. This is the best way.
ReplyDeletedark chocolate. in any sort of combination with nuts, salt, or indian-inspired a la pistachios, rose petals and cardamom....... mmm mmm good

ReplyDeleteI love chocolate with sea salt. Caramel, chocolate and sea salt is about as divine as one could want.
ReplyDeletekristinlba@aol.com
Such a tough question! I'm a huge fan of dark dark chocolate with caramel and sea salt, but I've been known to slum it with nestle morsels right out of the bag.
ReplyDeleteGreen & Black's is the BOMB....for sure, darker is better....caramel coated, wrapped up with fruit and any type nut, but my favorite is with hot tea, all by itself :)
