What I'm Digging

Happy Friday, friends! My sisters are here for the week! I! Am! So! Excited!

Hope you had a lovely Independence Day (for those U.S. readers). We laid low at home, and rounded out the day gathered around our big oak dining room table with friends. Nice and easy, that's my style!

Here's a smattering of this's and that's that caught my attention this week:
*This is my kind of camp craft!
*Sweet corn and roasted red pepper potato salad
*Local living school!
*If I lived in London (or anywhere in the U.K., for that matter), I'd totally do this.
*All-natural mosquito control, as well as remedies for stings.
*Completely inspired by this company's mission (check out the videos).
*Dan Barber's local food crusade, and critique.
*Bee balm fireworks.
*Cherry round-up!!!
*Community-supported medicine=genius concept!

We're working, working, working this weekend on another part of my new book this weekend. It's going to be so much fun!

And, apropos of absolutely nothing, this is tickling my funny bone (and my tail feather).

Wherever you go this weekend, whatever you do, and whomever you do it with, may it be grand!

I love Jamie Oliver, and used to watch him years ago on the food network cooking in his little London kitchen, before he became really famous. Funny guy, and great cook!

These links are all great! Thanks for all of the fun ideas. I especially got a huge kick out of the Party Rock Catina Band. It was soooo funny!

I got two of your books out of the library yesterday. I'm enjoying them, and I hope to use many ideas for canning and preserving. The one about keeping bees is more of a stretch for me, but my husband suggested we do it. Maybe it will work. I would love to give little jars of honey as gifts, so who knows!?

Hey Ashley! I know Jack (the one Dan Barber mentions)! Him and his wife farm Stone Barns' fields and they are both incredible people. If you're ever up my way in NY state you should check out Stone Barns. It's really fun for kids too. They're doing good things there...real good things. I've eaten at the bar of Blue Hill (can't afford the dinner yet) and it was incredible. That man is brilliant.
Hugs,
Angela

I ordered (but have yet to use) a quart of some natural mosquito control stuff from vitacost.com. It is basically very concentrated garlic juice that you put in a sprayer and dilute with water and spray on your yard. (I know, yards can be big, but I guess you can choose how much and where...) Anyway, it got excellent reviews and I am stoked to give it a try. People say your yard reeks of garlic (like that's a bad thing ;) for about 30 minutes but then the smell dissipates and the effects last 3-4 weeks. we'll see.......
