C.S.A. Shares

Hello all! Happy Friday! Here's hoping for sunny skies and calmer winds, wherever you find yourself this weekend!

My "Small Measures with Ashley" post is up today over at Design Sponge. This week I'm discussing C.S.A. (Community Supported Agriculture) shares and why you might want to consider purchasing one from a farm near you.

Got any great weekend plans? I'm going to this lecture tonight on renewing America's local food networks and "food sheds," along with restoring heritage crop species. Very excited about it. Sunday, I'm heading over to my friends Meg and Alisa's place for a haircut in exchange for some of my eggs, local honey, and some home-canned goodies from my pantry. These creative ladies are an absolute riot, so much chortling, sn0rty laughter, and bawdy talk is bound to ensue.

Stay warm! Layer up! Get some sun on your hands or face when/if you can! We need all the Vitamin D and warmth we can get in these last few weeks of winter!

I'm looking forward to growth in the CSA market for fish and meat.

Reading 'This Organic Life' right now and loving it - similar to Animal/Veg/Miracle - so much that I think about it when I'm not reading it! Getting my FSC cedar decking delivered as well, woo hoo!

And delighting of course in all the daffodils and crocuses in bloom, and super excited at how close we're getting to tulip season!

Hoping for a quiet weekend to catch up on some housework, reading, and crocheting. Last weekend I attended a local foods conference here in town and thoroughly enjoyed it. Met another person I could purchase CSA veggies from besides my "egg lady".

EcoGrrl, I am reading 'This Organic Life' right now as well, and really enjoying it.

Oh, I'm so jealous you get to see Gary Nabhan!! I am a huge fan of his. His book Cultures of Habitat literally changed the way I think about the world, and I particularly loved Coming Home to Eat (his take on the local food year) because I'm from Arizona. I admire him for showcasing all the native foods available in the desert!

I just recently moved to Oregon, so I've been checking out the RAFT Salmon Nation book to plan my garden, and get some endangered local heirlooms growing...

By the way, I discovered your blog on Design Sponge, and I've been enjoying it. Made your triple citrus marmalade and it was delicious! Thanks for sharing the recipe. :)

I read "This Organic Life" in '06 and it totally rocked my world. It was one of the first texts that got me really thinking about eating locally. Enjoy, ladies!
