Recent Acquisitions

My knitting education begins tomorrow afternoon! I'm SO very excited for this new endeavor. I've got unstoppable visions of scarfs and mittens and hats and sweaters and so. much. more fluttering about my mind's eye.

At this point in the journey, all I can tell you is that those are size 8 bamboo needles and the ball is 4-ply worsted weight Peruvian highland wool. And that concludes the scope of my knitting knowledge. Bring it, yarn! I've been ready for you for a long, long time!!!

*Candlerites-I picked up these knitting supplies at the well-stocked, super hospitable Yarn Nook on Smokey Park Hwy. Linda, the proprietress, is a dear soul, helping me get my needles and yarn, spinning the skein into a ball for me, letting Huxley curl up with a stuffed animal life-size cat in the window and sun himself (themselves?) while I shopped, and informing me that the Yarn Nook holds beginning knitting classes, also, every Wednesday and Saturday from 10:30-12:30 on an ongoing basis for $8/class. I've driven by this little building for the past 5 years and never stopped in before. That's the end of that! I know I'll be back, and you should give it a peek, too!

Wow.. that is quite a bargain for the class. In these parts, classes start at $10 per hr. Looking forward to seeing the photos of your creations.

Knitting is so much fun--you'll be knitting that little guy of yours sweaters before you know it!

I'm sure someone has already told you, but if you haven't yet check out Ravelry. Fabulous resource. You can answer any knitting question and have a ton of patterns at your finger tips.

Woops. Didn't put my name on the Ravelry comment. Commenting again so you have my info. :)

Best of luck! I too have passed the Yarn Nook, but I've never stopped in. I tend to go to Yarn Paradise in Biltmore Village or Purls downtown.

I tried to teach myself to knit a couple years ago- I made exactly 1 hat before life got busier and I put the needles down. We are getting a few alpacas soon- so maybe I'll pick them back up. We just moved to Candler so I will have to remember the Yarn Nook recommendation....

Oh, have fun! I've tried many times and decided that knitting is not. my. thing. But for people whose thing it is, they LOVE it! I hope you're one of them.

I'm really excited to follow your knitting journey. Knitting is something I've always wanted to learn, even if only to make ridiculously long scarves and misshapen pot holders.

It's so addicting, but you'll love it! I actually look forward to places where I have to wait because it means knitting time! I'm with a previous commenter: check out Ravelry. Good luck with your new endeavor!

Very exciting. I took a lesson over the summer and just finished my first scarf. There was a lot of unknitting to get there but I found I learned the most from my mistakes, I guess knitting is a little like life in that way.

I've been knitting for about 6 years...I took it up when I started teaching in order to relieve stress. I love it.

You're going to love knitting! Also, what a nice color way to start with. Of course, we'll see you on Rav. :)

I've tried to learn how to knit a few times and have finally gotten the hang of it. No sweaters yet for this lady, just scarves and pot holders. I'm surprised nobody mentioned it already, so I will, you might want to get yourself a cheaper yarn to start with. The ball you have is beautiful, but it will be harder to pull out your stitches and harder to see your stitches since it is fuzzy yarn and that might frustrate you in the beginning. I hate the idea of cheap yarn, too, but maybe you can pick some up at Goodwill and then you won't need it again :) Good luck!
